Riesling - Kremstal - Rainer Wess
The Riesling Kremstal DAC by Rainer Wess comes from Austria's Kremstal region, one of the world's most celebrated appellations for dry Riesling. Rainer Wess is a reference producer in the area, known for a precise, terroir-driven style that lets the vineyard speak rather than the winery.
The Kremstal stretches along the banks of the Danube and the Krems river: Wess's vineyards are planted on gneiss and primary rock soils that give the Riesling a dry, almost saline minerality that clearly distinguishes it from the fruitier, sweeter styles found elsewhere. Strict harvesting, slow fermentation in stainless steel, minimal intervention — the wine tells its own story.
On the nose it is intense and precise: citrus fruits (lime, grapefruit), white peach, linden blossom, and the characteristic petrol note — the classic "flint and stone" signature that great dry Rieslings develop with age. On the palate it is bone dry and vertical, with a razor-sharp acidity and a vibrant minerality that carries the finish for an exceptionally long time. Despite its immediate freshness, it has the structure to evolve beautifully in bottle for 5 to 10 years.
A Riesling for those who truly know wine — and for those who want to discover why Austria produces some of the most exciting white wines in Europe.
