Lugana - Il Gruccione - Nunzio Ghiraldi
The Lugana DOC "Il Gruccione" by Nunzio Ghiraldi is a wine that carries in its name all the biodiversity and vitality of the lakeside territory of Sirmione. Ghiraldi selects for this label the Turbiana grapes from the oldest rows, those that produce fewer bunches but of superior quality, with a natural concentration of aromas and structure that younger vines cannot yet achieve.
Vinification is artisan and respectful: spontaneous or selected-yeast fermentation in stainless steel, ageing on fine lees for a significantly longer period than the Sant'Onorata — several months — which gives the wine a creamy texture, greater aromatic complexity and a structure that allows it to evolve positively in bottle for 4 to 6 years. The wine is bottled without excessive filtration to preserve its full personality.
On the nose it is rich and complex: ripe white peach, apricot, linden blossom, toasted almond, candied cedar, delicate vanilla and a more intense and persistent chalky and saline minerality recalling the deep clay soils of the lower Garda shore. On the palate it is structured and creamy, with a pronounced sapidity, a precise fresh acidity and a long, elegant and persistent finish with notes of bitter almond and candied citrus. A Lugana that demonstrates how much this variety and this territory can surprise when an artisan producer puts everything into the work.
