Lugana - Sant'Onorata - Nunzio Ghiraldi
The Lugana DOC Sant'Onorata by Nunzio Ghiraldi is one of those wines found only in wine shops that truly know how to select — produced by a small artisan family estate in the Brescian Lugana zone, far from the commercial circuits and industrial production logic that have standardised many wines from this appellation in recent years.
Nunzio Ghiraldi is a producer of great authenticity who farms his Turbiana vineyards — the indigenous variety of Lugana, genetically identified as Trebbiano di Soave — on clay and calcareous soils of lacustrine origin with total dedication and very low yields. The name "Sant'Onorata" recalls the patron saint of the area, a tribute to the tradition and territory that is reflected in the wine's style: direct, authentic, without artifice.
Vinification is simple and respectful: fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature, ageing on fine lees for several months to add complexity without altering the varietal freshness, bottling without excessive filtration to preserve all the wine's personality. The result is a Lugana of distinctive character: bright straw yellow with greenish highlights. On the nose it is delicate but precise — white flowers, fresh almond, nectarine, citrus, cedar and a characteristic chalky and saline mineral note that is the signature of the finest Luganas on the clay soils of the lower Garda shore. On the palate it is fresh and sapid, with a slightly creamy texture from the lees ageing, a fine natural acidity and a clean, persistent finish with notes of almond and citrus.
An artisan Lugana of genuine personality, demonstrating how interesting this appellation can be when it is treated not as a commodity but as the expression of a specific territory and a producer with a clear and honest vision.
