Gruner Veltliner - Muga Selection - Spitalerhof
The Grüner Veltliner Muga Selection by Spitalerhof is one of those wines that surprises even the most experienced palates: produced in Alto Adige from a grape variety — Grüner Veltliner — that most wine lovers associate exclusively with Austria, it demonstrates how this borderland territory can interpret non-native varieties with a personality entirely its own.
Spitalerhof is a small family estate in the Val d'Isarco, the northernmost wine-growing valley in Alto Adige, where high altitudes and extreme day-to-night temperature swings create ideal conditions for whites of exceptional freshness and aromatic complexity. The "Muga Selection" designation indicates a careful selection of the finest grapes from the Muga parcel, vinified separately to maximise terroir expression.
Grüner Veltliner is celebrated worldwide for its unmistakable aromatic signature: white pepper. And even in this Alto Adige interpretation, that signature is clearly present, beautifully integrated with notes of lime, fresh Alpine herbs, green apple and delicate white flowers. On the palate it is dry and fresh, with a clean, cutting acidity and a mineral sapidity that reflects the porphyry and granite soils of the valley. The finish is clean, long and persistently spicy.
A white wine for those who want to step beyond the familiar and discover what happens when a border-crossing grape meets one of Italy's most gifted wine territories.
