Riesling - Lieu Dit Muhlforst - Domaine Mader
The Riesling Lieu-Dit Muhlforst by Domaine Mader is a wine of place in the strictest sense: it comes from a single named parcel — the "lieu-dit" Muhlforst — in the heart of Alsace, the French region bordering Germany that produces some of Europe's most complex and age-worthy dry Rieslings.
Domaine Mader is a family-run estate based in Hunawihr, a charming village in the heart of the Route des Vins d'Alsace, working with artisan methods that place terroir above all else. The Muhlforst parcel sits on sandy granite soils that give the Riesling a delicate, refined minerality and exceptional aromatic finesse — quite different from the richer, spicier style of Rieslings grown on marl or limestone in the same region.
The wine ferments slowly with indigenous yeasts and rests on its own fine lees for several months before bottling. The result is a bone-dry Riesling of rare elegance: on the nose it offers candied lemon, grapefruit, white peach, white flowers, saffron and a signature struck-flint minerality. On the palate it is fresh and vibrant, with a clean, precise acidity that is never harsh, and an exceptionally long, mineral finish.
A wine for enthusiasts who want to explore Alsace beyond the most commercial names — and discover why this region produces some of the longest-lived white wines in the world.
