Amarone della Valpolicella Classico - Moròpio - Antolini
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG Moròpio by Antolini is the finest and most representative selection from one of the most deeply rooted families in the Valpolicella Classica — based in Marano di Valpolicella for generations, Antolini interprets Amarone with a traditional and territorial style that yields to no stylistic trend. "Moròpio" is the Veronese dialect name for the black mulberry tree — once used to mark vineyard boundaries — a tribute to the agricultural history of these hills.
The Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes come from estate vineyards in the Classico zone, hand-harvested at full ripeness and dried in the traditional fruttaio for over 90 days. Fermentation is slow and unhurried, and ageing takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels for a period exceeding the DOCG minimum. On the nose it is majestic: black cherry, cacao, tobacco, leather, dried violet, oriental spice and a calcareous-clay minerality typical of Marano. On the palate it is powerful but elegant, with silky tannins, balanced glyceric sweetness and an exceptionally long finish.
