Soave - La Capelina - Franchetto
The Soave DOC La Capelina by Franchetto is the most immediate and everyday wine from a winery that has demonstrated, with the Recorbian Superiore and the two Lessini Durellos, its ability to work Veronese indigenous varieties with genuine artisan seriousness. If the Recorbian is the Soave for those who want to explore and wait, La Capelina is the Soave for those who want to open a bottle tonight and drink it with pleasure without overthinking.
"La Capelina" — the little chapel, likely a reference to the small votive shrine or rural chapel that still dots the hills of the Veronese Soave — is the wine of immediacy, freshness and genuine simplicity. Franchetto produces La Capelina from pure 100% Garganega with an essential and respectful approach: soft pressing, fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature to preserve all the varietal aromatic fragrance, 6 months of ageing in stainless steel on fine lees to add the lightest complexity without altering the freshness, and 2 months in bottle before release.
The 2025 vintage is the most recent available in the catalogue — a wine that arrives on the market at its freshest, with all the vitality of the just-completed vintage still fully intact in the glass. The 2025 Garganega on the volcanic and calcareous soils of the Soave DOC expressed a particularly lively aromatic freshness and mineral sapidity — characteristics that in a young and yet-to-be-structured wine like La Capelina translate into an immediately satisfying drinkability.
On the nose it is delicate, clean and inviting: fresh white flowers (hawthorn, acacia), white peach, green apple, lemon, cedar and a light mineral hint of stone and chalk. On the palate it is fresh, light and almost refreshing — a lean and fluid texture, a lively and precise fresh acidity, a pleasant mineral salinity and a clean and brief finish with floral and almond notes. The Soave to open immediately, to serve well chilled at 11°C, to pair with everything and not to think about too much. One of the finest Soaves at this price in the Italian market.
At €13 for a 100% Garganega from an artisan producer with the very fresh 2025 vintage, this is simply the white wine to always keep in the refrigerator.
