Bolgheri - Superiore - Campo al Fico - I Luoghi
Campo al Fico is the undisputed flagship of I Luoghi at Bolgheri: a wine born from the estate's historic vineyard, where Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines of over 30 years of age are farmed at extremely low yields — just a handful of bunches per plant — concentrating everything the vintage and the terroir have to offer into grapes of exceptional quality. The name recalls the ancient fig tree that has marked the boundary of this extraordinary parcel on the Tuscan Etruscan Coast for generations.
Ageing lasts 24 months in new French oak barriques, followed by further rest in bottle before release — a long and patient journey that transforms already exceptional fruit into a wine of rare complexity and elegance. On the nose Campo al Fico opens slowly — decant at least one hour ahead — revealing layers of blackcurrant, wild blackberry, dark chocolate, graphite, espresso coffee, Tuscan cigar and violet. On the palate it is monumental: an imposing tannic structure already beautifully polished, a fresh acidity that provides lift and vertical drive, enveloping warmth and a finish that lingers for well over a minute with notes of spice, liquorice and dark fruit.
A wine destined for those seeking absolute Bolgheri excellence without paying the prices commanded by the most famous labels in the appellation. With the right cellaring — at least 5 to 8 years from the harvest — it reaches heights that are genuinely difficult to match at this price point.
