Barolo - Riserva - Pernanno - Sobrero

The Barolo DOCG Riserva Pernanno by Sobrero is one of the most representative wines of Piedmontese tradition in the Emporio Divino selection. Sobrero is a historic winemaking family from Castiglione Falletto — one of the most prestigious and gifted communes in the entire Barolo appellation — that for generations has interpreted Nebbiolo with a rigorous traditional style, far removed from the modernist trends that swept through the Langhe in recent decades.

Pernanno is one of the most highly regarded MGAs (Additional Geographic Mentions) in Castiglione Falletto: a vineyard on Helvetian soils — compact calcareous-clay marls — that gives the Nebbiolo an imposing tannic structure, extraordinary aromatic depth and outstanding longevity. The Riserva version undergoes an even longer ageing period than the base Barolo — a minimum of 62 months between wood and bottle as required by regulations — in large Slavonian oak barrels that impart structure and gradual oxygenation without masking the varietal aromas.

On the nose it is majestic and constantly evolving in the glass: dried rose, tar, preserved red fruits, pipe tobacco, leather, violet, warm spice and a mineral base of chalk and struck flint that is the unmistakable signature of the great Barolos of Castiglione Falletto. On the palate it is austere and vertical in youth — this is a wine that requires at least 10 to 15 years from the harvest to fully express itself — with powerful but already well-polished tannins from the prolonged ageing, a vibrant acidity that guarantees exceptional longevity and an endless finish with notes of liquorice, tobacco and Langhe earth.
