Valpolicella - Piubello
The Valpolicella DOC Piubello by Corte Canella is the everyday wine from a winery that produces some of the most complex and sought-after wines in the Valpolicella — the Soave Classico, the Valpolicella Asante, the Superiore, the Recioto Le Sore, the Amarone. With the base Piubello, Corte Canella descends to the most accessible price in its range and offers at €12 a fresh and fragrant Valpolicella DOC that carries the artisan signature of the estate even in its most everyday and immediate form.
"Piubello" is the name that Corte Canella also uses for the Valpolicella Superiore — two wines with the same name but completely different characters, representing the two extremes of the estate's lighter red range: the base Piubello is the young, fresh and immediate version; the Piubello Superiore is the more structured one, aged 24 months in wood with partial appassimento. Same name, two radically different souls — a stylistic choice that tells the story of the versatility of the Corvina variety and Corte Canella's production vision.
The blend is identical to the Superiore — Corvina 60%, Corvinone 25%, Rondinella 15% — but the vinification is completely different: no appassimento, no wood, only stainless steel for 6 months to preserve all the freshness and varietal fragrance of the 2024 grapes, followed by 3 months in bottle before release. The 2024 vintage produced a Corvina of excellent aromatic freshness — the result is a young and lively Valpolicella that is drunk with immediate pleasure without requiring decanting or patience.
On the nose it is fragrant and inviting: fresh vineyard cherry, raspberry, young blackberry, red wildflowers and a slightly rustic herbaceous note that is the signature of quality young Corvina on Veronese soils. On the palate it is light and fresh, almost refreshing — barely perceptible tannins, a lively and precise fresh acidity, an immediate drinkability and a clean and brief finish with notes of fresh red fruit. The Valpolicella to open immediately, to serve at 16-17°C, to pair with everything and to share without ceremony.
At €12 it is the most accessible entry point into the Corte Canella universe — and the most convenient way to discover one of the most versatile and consistent estates in the Emporio Divino catalogue.
