Recioto della Valpolicella Classico - Colle Cerè
The Recioto della Valpolicella Classico DOCG by Colle Cerè is the third wine from a winery that has demonstrated, with the 2020 Classico Amarone and the 2021 La Tonega Ripasso, its ability to interpret the Veronese territory with genuine consistency and production rigour. With this 2024 Recioto, Colle Cerè completes its range by telling the Veronese tradition in its most ancient and sweet form — the one that precedes the Amarone by centuries and that today still represents one of the rarest and most precious wines in the entire appellation.
The 2024 Classico Recioto by Colle Cerè is a wine of great freshness and immediacy compared to other Recioto in the catalogue — the choice of stainless steel ageing for 12 months, instead of the oak barrels used for the Ripasso and the Amarone, preserves all the aromatic vitality and varietal freshness of the dried grapes without imparting oak notes that might weigh down the natural sweetness. It is a modern and respectful approach that values the fruit of the appassimento in its purest form.
Corvina 50%, Corvinone 40% and Rondinella 10% — the same proportions as the Amarone and the La Tonega Ripasso, a sign of varietal coherence that runs through the entire range — are selected from the ripest and most concentrated grapes in the vineyard and dried for 90 days in the traditional fruttaio, losing over 35% of their weight. Fermentation is arrested with precision before the complete consumption of the sugars, preserving a deep and velvety natural sweetness. Twelve months of stainless steel ageing and 2 months in bottle complete the journey.
The 500ml format is the traditional choice for dried-grape sweet wines — more generous than a half bottle, more elegant than a full bottle, perfect for sharing between two people or as a valuable gift. 1,500 bottles produced — an absolute rarity even within the already rare production of Colle Cerè.
On the nose it is sumptuous and fragrant from the fresh 2024 vintage: black cherry and morello jam, blackberry, blueberry, sweet cacao, cinnamon, cloves, dried violet and a fruity freshness that the stainless steel has magnificently preserved. On the palate it is dense and velvety — deep natural sweetness never cloying thanks to the fresh acidity of the Classica Corvina, soft and silky tannins, an enveloping glyceric density and a long persistent finish with notes of dark fruit, warm spice and cacao. Serve at 14-15°C. Perfect as a dessert wine, meditation wine or as an artisan Veronese luxury gift.
