Barolo - Parussi - Sobrero
The Barolo DOCG Parussi by Sobrero is one of Castiglione Falletto's most elegant and most discussed Barolos — Parussi is one of the historic vineyards of Castiglione Falletto, where the winery was born in 1940 in the Ciabot Tanasio farmstead and began bottling its own wines in 1964, thanks to the second generation.
The family's connection with the world of wine is far older: although not always winemakers, for centuries the Sobreros have been direct vine growers, since the time when their ancestor decided not to return to his native Spain and settled on these gentle hills, the ancient domain of the small but glorious Marquisate of Saluzzo. A history that few Piedmontese wineries can claim — and one that is directly reflected in the quality and identity of the wines.
The Parussi cru is a historic vineyard in Castiglione Falletto with south-west exposure at 220 metres altitude. The soil is sandy and calcareous, with Guyot training at 4,000 vines per hectare and a yield of 45 quintals per hectare. The combination of sandy soil — ensuring excellent drainage and refined tannins — and calcareous — conferring minerality and natural acidity — is the signature of Parussi: the result is a Barolo of great elegance with fine, evolved tannins.
Vinification takes place with fermentation and maceration at controlled temperature in stainless steel with submerged cap for approximately 50 days, with manual and automated pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel and ageing in large oak barrels for at least 24 months. The wine is bottled without filtration — a precise production choice that preserves the full aromatic and structural complexity of the Parussi Nebbiolo without interventions that might diminish its character.
On the nose it is ethereal and enveloping, with intense and persistent floral notes of warm spice, sandalwood and dried rose. On the palate it is structured and powerful, with soft and elegant tannins, closing fresh yet sapid. The 2020 vintage in the Langhe was exceptional — ideal climatic conditions producing Nebbiolo of extraordinary concentration and phenolic ripeness, with a balance between power and freshness that this denomination rarely achieves. Serve at 18-20°C with mandatory decanting of at least 2 hours. Expresses its best between 5 and 20 years from the harvest.
Sobrero is certified organic — a detail that adds further value to a wine already extraordinary for its history, terroir and production quality.
