The Vallagarina IGT Cabernet Franc by Eugenio Rosi is the kind of wine you will not find in supermarkets or ordinary wine shops — it is the fruit of a radical artisan vision, that of a producer who has chosen to do less in order to do better, farming just a few hectares in the Vallagarina valley in Trentino with an almost obsessive attention to terroir and variety.
Eugenio Rosi is regarded by many critics and wine lovers as one of the most authentic and courageous vignerons in Trentino: he follows no trends, chases no easy consensus, farms his vineyards using natural methods and intervenes as little as possible in the cellar. His wines can be disarming on first encounter — they require attention, time in the glass and a genuine openness of mind — but those who truly understand them find them impossible to forget.
Cabernet Franc is the ideal variety for this approach: more delicate and nervy than Cabernet Sauvignon, capable of expressing the character of soil and climate with extraordinary precision. On the alluvial and moraine soils of the Vallagarina, with their strong gravelly component, Rosi's Cabernet Franc develops a unique personality: medium-intensity ruby, luminous and clear. On the nose it is elegant and complex — ripe red pepper, redcurrant, violet, aromatic herbs (thyme, sage), graphite and a ferrous mineral undercurrent. On the palate it is lean and fresh, with barely perceptible fine-grained tannins and a lively acidity that makes it remarkably drinkable despite its complexity. The finish is long, herbaceous and precise.
A wine for those who know that the greatest wines do not always carry the most famous appellations.
