Amarone della Valpolicella Classico - Monte dei Ragni
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG by Monte dei Ragni is the highest and most ambitious expression from one of the most consistent and respected producers in the Valpolicella Classica — an Amarone born from a radical biodynamic philosophy and an absolutely gifted territory, bringing into the glass the full authentic character of the Fumane hills.
Monte dei Ragni farms its vineyards according to certified biodynamic principles — no synthetic chemical treatments, respect for lunar and seasonal cycles, natural composting, maximum attention to soil biodiversity. This choice, which demands far more work and commitment than conventional viticulture, guarantees grapes of exceptional quality and a vitality of fruit that translates directly into wines of great personality and longevity. The vineyards on the calcareous-clay soils of Fumane, at the heart of the Classico zone, produce Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella with a natural concentration and aromatic balance that only the finest terroirs of the appellation can offer.
The selected grapes are dried in a traditional fruttaio for over 90 days, losing over 35% of their weight and slowly, naturally concentrating sugars, polyphenols and aromas. Vinification is artisan, with long fermentations in concrete or wood vessels, and ageing takes place exclusively in large Slavonian oak barrels — no barriques, no new wood — for a period that ensures integration and complexity without masking the varietal aromas.
On the nose it is elegant and deep: ripe cherry and morello jam, sour cherry, cacao, warm spice, dried violet, pipe tobacco, Veronese aromatic herbs and a mineral and earthy base that speaks directly of the biodynamic soil from which it comes. On the palate it is powerful but balanced — dense and already well-integrated tannins, a natural fresh acidity that balances the alcoholic structure, a velvety glyceric sweetness and a long, persistent finish with notes of dark fruit, spice and earth that evolve in the glass for several minutes.
A genuinely territorial Classico Amarone that proves biodynamic viticulture and absolute quality are not in contradiction — on the contrary, they bring out the best in each other.
