"Esegesi" — exegesis: the close, careful interpretation of a sacred text. Eugenio Rosi chose this name deliberately: it is the wine in which he attempts to "read" his territory in the most honest and personal way possible, free from commercial pressure and stylistic compromise. A wine that demands interpretation, not just consumption.

Produced in the Vallagarina valley in Trentino from a blend of varieties grown on alluvial and moraine soils with a strong gravelly component, Esegesi represents the full synthesis of Rosi's winemaking philosophy: natural viticulture with total manual care in the vineyard, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, extended macerations, ageing in large old oak with no standardisation of process. Every vintage is different from the last — not through lack of control, but through a conscious choice to let the wine tell the story of the year in which it was born.

The colour is ruby red with garnet reflections, of fine intensity. On the nose it is a layered and ever-shifting wine: ripe red fruits (cherry, blackberry), dried flowers, tobacco, leather, cellar spice, damp earth and a ferrous mineral undercurrent that speaks of the gravels of the Adige river. On the palate it is dense but never heavy, with well-integrated present tannins, a fresh and lively acidity and a finish that evolves and lingers for several minutes. A meditation wine, best opened at least one hour ahead or decanted generously.

Esegesi is for those who believe that wine is culture before it is pleasure.
