Monte dei Ragni's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is the highest and most ambitious expression of one of the most consistent and respected producers in the Valpolicella Classica - an Amarone born from a radical biodynamic philosophy and an exceptionally suited terroir, bringing the authentic character of the Fumane hills into the glass.
Monte dei Ragni farms its vineyards according to the principles of certified biodynamic viticulture - no synthetic chemical treatments, respect for lunar and seasonal cycles, natural composting, and the utmost attention to soil biodiversity. This choice, which requires far more work and commitment than conventional viticulture, ensures exceptionally high-quality grapes and a vitality in the fruit that translates directly into wines of great character and longevity. The vineyards on the calcareous and clay soils of Fumane, in the heart of the Classica zone, produce Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella with a natural concentration and aromatic balance that only the denomination's finest terroirs can offer.
The selected grapes are dried in a traditional drying loft for over 120 days, losing more than 35% of their weight and slowly and naturally concentrating sugars, polyphenols, and aromas. The winemaking is artisanal, with long fermentations in concrete or wooden vats, while aging takes place exclusively in large Slavonian oak casks - no barriques, no new oak - for a period that ensures integration and complexity without masking the varietal aromas.
On the nose, it is elegant and profound: ripe cherry and morello cherry jam, black cherry, cocoa, sweet spices, dried violet, pipe tobacco, herbs from the Veronese hills, and a mineral, earthy undertone that speaks directly of the biodynamic soil from which it originates. On the palate, it is powerful yet balanced - dense, already well-integrated tannins, natural acidity that balances the alcoholic structure, velvety glyceric sweetness, and a long, persistent finish with notes of black fruit, spices, and earth that evolve in the glass for several minutes.
An authentic terroir-driven Amarone Classico, demonstrating that biodynamic viticulture and absolute quality are not contradictory - on the contrary, they enhance each other.
