Corte Canella's Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG completes the range of one of the most consistent and respected wineries in the Emporio Divino selection - the same producer that makes the award-winning Soave Classico featured in leading wine guides and the rare "Vitefà" Recioto. Seeing Corte Canella offer a high-quality Amarone as well confirms a complete and ambitious winemaking vision, capable of expressing the best of Veronese tradition in all its forms.
Corte Canella is a small artisanal producer that farms its own vineyards on the limestone and clay soils of Valpolicella, taking an approach that respects the land and local winemaking traditions. The Amarone is made from Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes, hand-harvested at full ripeness and dried in a traditional drying room for over 90 days - the minimum period required by the appellation, observed here rigorously and without commercial shortcuts. The grapes lose more than 35% of their weight during drying, naturally and progressively concentrating sugars, polyphenols and aromas.
The wine is made through long fermentations that extract the grapes' full potential, while ageing in large Slavonian oak casks provides structure and gradual oxygenation without overpowering the varietal aromas with new oak notes. The result is a classic, terroir-driven Amarone - it does not pursue extreme power or a modern oaky style, but rather the balance and authenticity that are the true hallmark of great artisanal Amarone wines.
On the nose, it is clean and well-defined: ripe cherry and morello cherry preserve, black cherry, cocoa, sweet spices, tobacco, dried violet and a delicate balsamic hint reminiscent of the herbs of the Verona hills. On the palate, it is enveloping and well balanced - tannins are present but already polished, with harmonious glyceric sweetness, refreshing acidity that lends verticality, and a long, persistent finish with notes of concentrated red fruit, spices and minerality. An Amarone that does not need to impress with power: it speaks through elegance.
